Safety at MakoTrac

Safety at MakoTrac is paramount. The clear publication of safety rules and regulations (red flyer and wall posting) and a comprehensive pre-race briefing by MakoTrac staff forms the basis of a safe racing environment for our customers.

All race karts are continuously maintained to high standards. They are fitted with suitable tyres which provide good grip through all aspects of speed and cornering. Tyre pressure, steering, bearings and brakes are checked daily. Wheel alignments are done regularly, an engine and clutch service is performed after every 25 hours of use, including an engine oil change.

The track is equipped with plastic barriers, a collection of racing flags for easy communication between staff and drivers, as well as fire extinguishers. All karts are fitted with kill switches and engine immobilisers, enabling staff to shut down any kart immediately. Continuous monitoring of racing activity by MakoTrac staff ensures a safe racing environment.

Younger drivers, in particular, are trained and briefed prior to their first run. It is especially ensured that they have a good understanding of brake and accelerator pedals.

The set limit of 8 minutes per session is also designed to ensure a stress-free and safe conduct on the race track. Furthermore, a rest period of between 8 and 16 minutes is required between race sessions.

A requirement to wear closed shoes is another prerequisite for on-track safety. Full faced helmets provided by MakoTrac are regularly serviced and cleaned. Gloves and overalls are available for hire.

The safety record of MakoTrac since its opening in 1998 is such that no claim has ever been lodged against the facility. Assessments from the Queensland Government Brisbane (Principal Inspector for High Risk Operations) as well as sports medicine advocates has been unanimously positive and complimentary, commending the MakoTrac race track for its impeccable standards.
